From the Sustainability Round Table
I recently had the pleasure of hosting the inaugural roundtable event for the Suppliers Declare movement, held on the Gold Coast.
The event was organised in partnership with Larissa Rose - the Director of the Gold Coast-based environmental consultancy, GG Enviro - and brought together key contacts in Queensland's built environment including Sally Falls, the Director of Infrastructure of Palladium, and Emma Ridings, the Principal of Buchan.
The roundtable event involved impactful conversations surrounding what's required to achieve greater sustainability in Australia's built environment (both from a suppliers' perspective, and the market more broadly).
We also spoke about what creating change would look like, how public sentiment would have to drive this, and the increased demand there is for people to live and work in clean, healthy spaces with appropriate airflow and natural ventilation.
We discussed other Declare movements across Australia, and opportunities for collaboration between them to ensure that working to achieve greater sustainability comes from a whole-of-industry, collaborative approach.
Given it was the first time we gathered together a group of people in-person as part of Suppliers Declare - to present solutions and talk about the issues we face - I'm proud of the quality and depth of conversations we had.
I look forward to spreading the movement further (holding roundtable discussions in other cities across Australia) and continuing to speak loudly on the issue of sustainability in built environments.
